Need or Greed?

It was 3.45 in the Morning. As I was walking from my office to home. I prefer walking down on lonely roads (esp. at early mornings and late nights) rather than driving, even if it is a long walk. It is so wonderful! Suddenly a scuffling sound caught my attention. As I stared into the darkness I saw a tiny pair of hands digging into a pile of garbage. A tiny pair of eyes looked at me, fearful, as if I was a Policeman, the hands stopped their search. Bedraggled hair, a skinny body, filthy patches on tattered clothes. I couldn't believe that a child could ever be in this condition.

I stood mesmerized, neither could I stretch out my hands to help him out, nor could I walk away, ignoring this pathetic sight. A feeble voice broke my pensive thoughts, gleefully the child bit into a half rotten Banana Skin, the Skin trickled down tiny lips as tears swelled in my eyes. "No, don't eat it" - I wanted to say, but the Skin had disappeared, a momentary relief on the child's face brought about a faint smile - as if he was thanking me - but what did I do - just watched?

Soon a pair of other street children joined him and then the three pairs of tiny bare feet turned and ran - as if flying to another destination - treasure hunting for one bite to make them live for just another moment.

I just stood there - shaken, disbelieving that such stark reality can ever exist. Soon I would go back and enjoy the comfort that homeliness bestows on each one of us, good food, good shelter, and above all love. But I could not move. I was completely awe struck by the soundless cry of these helpless angels, a cry that was commensurate to unspoken pain. There I was enjoying the walk, and there is a child who cannot even think what he will get to eat the next moment!

What could I do? I questioned my self. Pick up all street children and take them home - over 30 lakh children! But we must do something - we must do something for children, our most precious gift. Baffled and pensive I just sat down on a platform of a shop pondering? Is this development? Globalization? Civilization ? And here I was leading to happiness, spiritualization? To whom?

I couldn't eat properly for two days. I know ecstasy has got nothing to do with material things. But hw does a child whom hunger haunts know it? Hw? or does hunger know it? But then the question arises? Ain't I responsible for this? Aren't we responsible for this? Yes, we are! I am putting just one question that I ask myself: then next time u put a buck in ur pocket or account just close ur eyes and ask urself is this my need or greed? Be truthful.

Are we living our life or are we living for some Ford, Some Bill Gates, Some Tata, Some Benz or xyz.......... Are we earning what we are for what? Spending on Bill Gates and Ford to become Rich. Isn't ur greed denying somebody its need? Who am I to judge it, but then judge it urself. U are the best judge! When Henry Ford was in bed in his last days, he was still planning to open some new business. Somebody asked him what the hell are u doing? U are not gonna live now? He said I know, but I don't know how to stop. Well, that is what is business man, (Vaishya), but u have to transcend to Brahmin. If u don't know how to and when to stop, at least what u can do is give that buck to the needy to that child for whom life is walking death. And if u can't, be sure u are trapped in a TRAP! And MONEY, though essential is the biggest TRAP a person can fall into. Have u fallen?

We are always accustomed to extremes. We never ever adopt both extremes and transcend them. Either we are capitalist or socialist, but not capitalist and socialist. Somebody who earns like a capitalist and spends like a socialist and hence transcends both. True society will emerge only then. True Globalization and Civilization can emerge only from this. Either we are mad at East or West. Never adopt both! Vasudhev kutumbkam. Those child out there are ur own children!!!!

And I am pain stuck when I see people who can't fast for a day or two or a meal or two. And here are small children for whom fasting is like another Nature! Who live hunger! Who struggle for one moment to live! Who are closer to Death than anybody !!!!! What is their fault? That they were not born in some ...................................................

But then there are fools who wuld put their concise in to back sit by doing some small SEVA or small donation. Is that person donating who is donating 1 lakh when he is earning 50 lakhs per annum or that which donates 5,000 out of his earning of 10,000/-? Are u really giving in the same manner in which u are receiving?

And then there are idiots at IMF and World Bank who measure development and advancement in terms of consumption. Is it? Who is advanced the person who manages in 100 liters or the person who consumes 10,000 liters and has eye on 100 liters of the other person. Yes? Who is cheap and mean? Ask a businessman whom will he prefer, a person who manages the same thing in 100 or person who manages in 10,000? So who is advanced? The same applies to us!

I still remember my grandma used to tell me the cost of things in her times. And I couldn't believe it? But now I know that the dozen Bananas that we used to get in my childhood at Rs.1,2 or 3. We get 1 now at Rs.1 or more than Rs.1. 4 to 12 times increase. So what hv we done? There were times when the person used to get Rs.100 as pay and still could buy as much as the person who buys today at Rs.25,000/- But then telling pay as Rs.100 doesn't seem good. So we are increasing the figures, the figures that are psuedo, that are illusion! Why? Just to satisfy our ego and create illusion of wealth. And in the process what hv we done? A person earning 100 had the same buying power, but ample time and a person psuedofying his ego with 25,000 has the same buying power but no time!!! What will u prefer? A 15-20 minutes walk from ur home to work amidst nature and trees or a 1-2 hour drive (in pollution)? Technology is to be used, but we are being used by it. So we are all suffering from collective psuedo Economic Egoism!(sorry I hv coined this term)

And yes remember u will receive in the same manner in which u give. Every action has equal and opposite reaction! U may not get money in return, but if u give 100% (why 100%) cuz if u take even 0.01% from ur giving like name, fame, pride etc. it is taking only and not giving. So if it is pure giving, u mayn't receive money for money, but something much more than that! But it has to be experienced! It has to be lived! But don't give to get! Just give whatever u can, money, work, clicks, volunteering, ideas, projects ........... And u will know what I am talking!!!!!!!!!!

Of course everything that is, is a dream, an illusion. But it is better to hv a collective Healthy illusion rather than a collective Hungry illusion as long as the collective illusion is there! Paradox!!! Well, complete truth always accommodates paradoxes!!!
